About the Artist

Artist and designer Sara Hunsucker is inspired by the beauty, function, and quiet humanity found in everyday objects. Her work embraces the imperfections inherent in handmade things, celebrating the marks, variations, and tactile qualities that make an object feel uniquely human.

“I find it humbling to create objects that can have such an intimate connection to the body and that serve a real purpose.”

Hunsucker began her career as a visual artist while earning her undergraduate degree at Otis College of Art and Design in her hometown of Los Angeles. Her early work often centered on viewer interaction and included drawing, painting, sculpture, and installation. She went on to exhibit her work throughout Los Angeles and nationally while also pursuing a career in art education.

In 2008, Hunsucker earned her MFA in Visual Art from the University of California, San Diego. She continued exhibiting and teaching, which included several years as an adjunct sculpture instructor at Pasadena City College.

Her passion for ceramics began unexpectedly in 2017, when she joined the American Museum of Ceramic Art in Pomona, California, as Education Manager. With little previous experience working with clay, she decided to take a few evening ceramics classes. What began as an exploration quickly became a calling.

From those first classes, Sara Hunsucker Studio was born.

Today, Hunsucker creates handmade ceramic objects that balance function, whimsy, and a deep appreciation for the handmade. Her work invites you to slow down, notice the ordinary, and find beauty in objects made thoughtfully by hand.

She lives and works in Easton, Connecticut.
